5 Things You Need To Know About Trampolines

Do people often ask which trampolines are right for me? What size should I choose for my yard? What size and model of a trampoline is best for my family? What are the health benefits of trampoline exercise? How to avoid injury during exercise? The following 5 things will give you the answer.

The first step to deciding which trampoline you need is to measure your yard and find out how much space you have. Trampolines range in size from as small as 8 feet round and as large as 13 feet in diameter.

Next, look for a section of your backyard that is clear of branches, debris, fences, and slopes. And don’t forget that most trampolines require additional safe clearance space around the trampoline. Here are our recommendations to find the best space:

  • Flat and even (if the space you have isn’t level, we recommend the rise/gradient be no more than 3 degrees across the whole space.  We don’t advise installing where the slope is greater than that).
  • Safe lateral clearance space of 1.5m on all sides of the trampoline.
  • Minimum height clearance of 6m from the ground.
  • Clean and free of obstacles or debris.

Who Is Jumping

The trampoline model you choose also depends on who will be using the trampoline. Is it just the kids or will Mom and Dad jump too? The trampoline’s maximum user weight can help.

The Maximum User Weight is based on how heavy you are and how high you jump. It is about ensuring jumpers don’t ‘bottom out’ (touch the ground while jumping). Each trampoline will have this marked and depending on who will be using it you may need a larger trampoline.

Choosing The Right Type

Here’s what you should know about the different types of trampolines on the market:

Round Trampolines: Round trampolines are traditionally used for recreational purposes. They are the most versatile and basic type for outdoor use. The features of round trampolines as blow.

  • They are safety-net enclosure-friendly. Not all trampolines are.
  • They offer incredible force distribution for safety.
  • They are lightweight and portable
  • Most affordable trampolines on the market

Rectangular Trampolines: The rectangle trampoline is definitely built for professionals and athletes to practice and perform on.

       ● You can fit them in tight corners and spaces.

       ● It offers a higher bounce than round trampolines.

       ● They are slightly expensive to purchase

Mini trampolines: The mini trampoline is good for fitness-related uses. They’re not only affordable and compact but also the best alternative for strength and balance training indoors. If you have a small gym room in your home, having a mini trampoline is exciting and beneficial.

Benefits For Health

NASA found 10 minutes of jumping on a trampoline is equal to going on a 30-minute run. That means you can achieve your fitness goals in less time than hitting the gym. And it’s right in your backyard.

Stronger Bones:  The repetitive action of jumping improves bone mineral content and builds the musculoskeletal system. Each landing from a jump is double the force of gravity, which develops muscle strength over time and prevents bone diseases such as osteoporosis.

Mental Health: Physical activity makes you feel happy, positive, and self-confident. Endorphins, the positive mood-enhancing chemicals released during exercise, are triggered when jumping. An added benefit is the sheer fun factor of jumping up and down. It will make you smile, laugh and feel happy!

Heart Health:  Increasing your heart rate with 10 minutes of jumping a day will strengthen the muscles that are needed for a healthy cardiovascular system. If a happy heart isn’t a good reason to bounce, we don’t know what is!

Jump and Learn: Studies show that regular physical activity supports child brain development by improving memory, concentration, and positive outlook. Researchers have even found that kids who ran for 15-45 minutes before school were less distracted and more attentive to schoolwork. Let kids jump on the trampoline for 10 minutes in the morning before school. Jumping will wake up their mind and body, and get them ready for learning.

How To Avoid Injury

Just like you wear bike helmets and have rules for swimming pools, you should have rules for safe trampoline play. We highly recommend following these five safe jumping rules to make your jump time even safer:

  • No Flips: Untrained jumpers can land on their head and neck, causing serious injury.
  • One at a Time: Having a single jumper eliminates the chance of collisions and injuries. And NEVER DOUBLE-BOUNCE!
  • Supervise Jumping: A responsible adult should keep an eye on the jumper.
  • Safe Clearance: Keep enough space around the trampoline (we recommend 5 feet) to allow room for the net to flex out. It is also important to have a safe overhead clearance of 6m.
  • Keep it Locked: Zip the net, when the trampoline is not being used, will keep unwanted jumpers away.
